This week’s Global Manufacturing Festival in Sheffield showcased some fascinating work from UK manufacturers.
Andrew Peters from Siemens shared his thoughts on where innovation is changing the face of manufacturing and how the UK is at the forefront of some of this extraordinary change.
Of the six areas of opportunity Andrew cited, two areas were of particular interest. First, Andrew highlighted integrated software as a driver of innovation and an important answer to managing the increasingly complex network of suppliers, customers and partners. Naturally we couldn’t agree more!
Second, Andrew talked about rapid prototyping and how Formula One racing teams are already using 3D printing to prototype and manufacture new parts to quickly improve performance between races.
Speaking of Formula One, did you know that Microsoft Dynamics were sponsoring the Lotus Formula One team this season? Look out for the logo just below the driver.
And to coincide with this news from Microsoft I’ve stumbled across a video where the Lotus team talk about how they’re using rapid prototyping. Enjoy…
